Here are some great SIGN INDUSTRY BOOKS:

Sign Design

Mastering Layout: On the Art of Eye
Considered by many to be the Sign Industry’s design Bible… This is the quintessential design book for every sign designer who takes his or her sign company seriously. Mike Stevens’ book on Mastering Layout provides incredible information on sign design theory including color, contrast and composition. Simply put, this book is a MUST HAVE for every sign shop.

Designage: The Art of the Decorative
A handy book with tons of examples of decorative signage and idea promoting designs. Great to have on the reference shelf.

Signage and Wayfinding Design: A Complete Guide to Creating Environmental Graphic Design Systems
This book focuses design examples and tips specifically on sign systems, way-finding concepts and signs complementing the local environments. Another one for the easy to reach resource shelf.

Sign Sales and Marketing

Guerrilla Marketing: Secrets for Making Big Profits from Your Small Business (Guerrilla Marketing)
Guerilla Marketing pretty much says it all. This book highlights and provides all sorts of thought provoking methods to get killer marketing results for your sign shop… often with little or no money invested at all! Definitely worth the read.

Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being
Stop worrying about that other sign shop down the street and focus on being remarkable. Lots of useful tips and ideas to try out and most are easily adaptable to your sign business.

Sign Business

The Business Side of Creativity: The Complete Guide for Running a Graphic Design or Communications Business
A great practical guide to running (and profiting) in any sort of creative industry. Practical tips on selling / marketing your business, pricing your creative concepts, designing, protecting your creative ideas and running your organization.

The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to
The E-Myth is NOT a book about online advertising or marketing… Rather, it is an excellent read on the principles of working ON your business rather than IN it all the time. Focusing on how your sign shop runs and building systems to facilitate (and duplicate) it can bring some incredible results. The E-Myth is a very exciting and beneficial book that has helped my sign business immensely.

The E-Myth Contractor: Why Most Contractors’ Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It
The E-Myth Contractor is a more specific and expanded book that does an excellent job of expounding on the E-Myth principles from the first book. A great companion book to apply the E-Myth concepts directly to your sign business.
